U.S. Natural Gas Electricity Efficiency is Always Improving

U.S. Natural Gas Electricity Efficiency is Always Improving

U.S. Natural Gas Electricity Efficiency is Always Improving

U.S. Natural Gas Electricity Efficiency is Always Improving

El Segundo Energy Center, a 560-MW combined cycle power plant in southern California. Source:... [+] Combined Cycle Journal For electricity, the lifeblood of our modern world, efficiency has been installed as the 1st choice to reduce energy usage and related GHG emissions. Although renewables are ranked 2nd in this critical "loading order," 3rd ranked natural gas often gets deployed 1st because of greater availability and reliability. This demonstrates why since California first installed its Renewable Portfolio Standard in 2003, natural gas' share in the power generation mix has actually risen from 47% then to 61% today. Thanks to its clean burning, predictable, and flexible nature, natural gas has become an increasingly attractive fuel, boosted by a production boom and lower prices. Evolving technologies will continue to allow gas to play an expanding role in the clean generation of electricity. The U.S. Energy Information Administration reports that "under the proposed Clean Power Plan, natural gas, then renewables, gain generation share." In 2015, natural gas generated 33% of U.S. electricity, and gas is projected to overtake coal this year and become America's leading source of power. But, the rapidly evolving efficiency of gas-based electricity might be what's most impressive. "More than 80 percent of natural gas-fired generation in the U.S. comes from natural gas combined-cycle power plants." Combined Cycle Gas Turbines (CCGTs) can have energy conversion rates over 60% at full load, producing "up to 50% more electricity from the same fuel than a traditional simple cycle plant." One way to measure the efficiency of a generator or power plant is the heat rate, or the amount of energy required to generate a unit of electricity. Higher heat rates indicate less efficient units, since more fuel is required to produce. The heat rate of our natural gas fleet has continued to fall about 1% per year, while rising or staying flat for other competitive fuels (EIA data here). These rising efficiencies for gas-based power are crucial because they mean less "feed" is required to produce more power, reducing GHG emissions, water use, etc. Very importantly, a 1% improvement in efficiency cuts GHG emissions by 1-3%. In 2015, the U.S. used 9.6 Trillion Cubic Feet (Tcf) of natural gas to produce 1,340 Terawatt Hours (TWh) of electricity, more than a 20% improvement from 200o, when 5.2 Tcf produced 600 TWh. In other words, producing 6 Tcf per year, the Marcellus shale gas play in Pennsylvania alone can generate 840 TWh of electricity, or enough to meet the entire electricity demand needs of Texas, California, and South Carolina combined. It's no wonder, then, that Pennsylvania's annual natural gas-based power generation has surged nearly 6-fold to 60 TWh since 2005, and the state is now investing $13.6 billion more in gas power plants. U.S. Natural Gas Plants Continue to Require Less Gas to Produce More Electricity Source: EIA; JTC Since 2000, 80% of new generation capacity in the U.S. has been natural gas. Today, we have nearly 500,000 megawatts of gas capacity, compared to 375,000 back in 2005, meaning that over 33% of our gas plants are 10 years old or less, having a long-life often exceeding 30 years. Efficiency improvements will continue because we are installing newer and better gas plants: over 70% of new capacity going forward will be natural gas. Gas utilities have an "ongoing effort to replace older plants with newer, more fuel-efficient energy centers" with state-of-the-art generation technologies.  This is great news for our environment: even the admittedly "left-leaning" The New York Times says that "in the U.S., the decoupling of emissions and economic growth was driven chiefly by the boom in domestic natural gas." Because of New Source Performance Standards, the electric power industry will shift mostly to CCGTs for higher efficiency and lower CO2 emissions. CCGTs are constructed in 30 months, far lower lead times than the average for solid fuel plants of about 72 months. And CCGTs  "are clearly the cheapest to build among thermal power technologies," a vital advantage for gas that is "maintained even after applying carbon capture technology."  In fact, per Black & Veatch, in 2014, combined cycle gas accounted for about 21% of total U.S. power capacity, but this will rise to nearly 40% in 2038 under the Clean Power Plan. From now until then, total gas capacity will jump nearly 90%. As for the all-important generation projections, EIA reports gas power could increase over 80% by 2040 to 2,440 TWh under the Clean Power Plan. But, this could ultimately be even higher because, as we know from the case of California, it's gas that gets deployed under normal conditions: "the sun doesn't shine and the wind doesn't blow." Not to mention any sort of carbon tax/trading scheme that would give gas an even firmer upper hand on coal. Indeed, it's natural gas that has been replacing retiring coal plants (here), and the U.S. faces a "wave" of perhaps 15% or more of our nuclear reactor fleet retiring. In fact, EPA wants as much as 75% utilization for combined cycle natural gas plants (here). EIA's 2040 projection for the contribution of wind (14%) and solar (6%) to total electricity output under the Clean Power Plan is significant but these non-dispatchable sources will clearly remain constrained by technical, physical, and financial limitations, regardless of the much reported on "shift to renewables" in the final version of the Clean Power Plan as opposed to the draft proposal. Simply put, no law changes our most basic electricity reality that natural gas power is almost always available, whereas wind and solar are typically unavailable. Moreover, "sweet spotting," where the best opportunities get chosen first, indicates that many of quality wind and solar locations have already been deployed, and many of our quality energy efficiency chances have already been capitalized upon. Thus, incremental gains in these areas are far more difficult and expensive than you're being told.  Indeed, the ongoing rise in natural gas power plant efficiency is just another indication that, as renewable energy technologies continue to evolve, so do fossil fuel technologies. Reality check going forward: renewables will not be competing against fossil fuels as they are now but as they will become. Especially for cleaner burning natural gas, which is often incorrectly seen by the renewable energy business as unwanted competition, as opposed to the flexible peaker plants that will enable intermittent wind/solar to compete by backing them up, this constant evolution of fossil fuel technologies cannot be ignored.

What to do if you're worried about gas and electricity bills and how Ofgem changes could affect you

© Getty Another energy bill hike on the way Energy price hikes could become smaller but more frequent under proposals from Ofgem. Here is a look at what impact the changes could have on customers and what those who are worried about bills can do in the meantime: What impact could reviewing the price cap more regularly have on customers? Instead of just having changes in October and April, there could also be reviews added in January and July - meaning prices are reviewed quarterly rather than every six months. Ofgem, which is consulting on the issue, said a more frequent price cap would reflect the most up-to-date and accurate energy prices - meaning when prices eventually fall from current record highs, customers would see the benefit sooner. Joe and Jess Thwaite, from Gloucester, scooped a record-breaking £184,262,899 with a Lucky Dip ticket in the draw on Tuesday May 10. Joe, 49, a communications sales engineer, and Jess, 44, who runs a hairdressing salon with her sister, have been married for 11 years and have two primary school-aged children. Hull Live What is Monkeypox? What is Monkeypox? Hull Live UP NEXT Myron Jobson, senior personal finance analyst, interactive investor, said smaller but more frequent price changes may be more palatable than less frequent but sharp price hikes. The energy price cap is currently at a record £1,971 per year for the average household and it is expected to jump sharply again in October. Mr Jobson said: "The recent increase in the energy price cap, which has added almost £700 a year to the average household's bills, has pushed many finely crafted budgets to breaking point. It is easier to budget for smaller price hikes than larger ones. "A more regular review of the energy price cap would mean that prices would come down as quickly as they go up. However, high inflation means the latter will be a reality for some time." How quickly could the proposed changes come in? The consultation is open until June 14. Ofgem would be looking to implement the reforms from October, meaning the first change under the new system would be made in January. What about customers who are worried about being able to afford their bills? Mr Jobson said: "It is important to regularly review your spending habits to ensure that you are living within your means and plan ahead to avoid money worries in future. Those struggling to keep on top of their energy bills needn't suffer in silence - there is support out there. Energy companies have schemes to help people who are struggling to afford their bills." Ofgem has information for people who are struggling with their bills on its website. It suggests contacting your supplier as soon as you can if you are worried about paying your energy bills or are in debt to your supplier. Suppliers must work with you to agree on a payment plan customers can afford under Ofgem rules. People can ask for more time to pay, access to hardship funds and payment breaks or reductions, under the potential options. Some energy companies offer certain schemes, for example, if someone is making their home more energy-efficient or offering free boiler checks and upgrades. Some people may also qualify for particular forms of help such as Winter Fuel Payments or the Warm Home Discount Scheme. Some charities may be able to offer grants. What if I believe my provider has raised my direct debit to an unreasonable level? Many people have told MoneySavingExpert.com that they have seen their direct debits increase by significantly over the average price cap increase - with some seeing them double. If this is the case for you, you could contact your provider to ask for an explanation and see what can be done. MoneySavingExpert has a guide on direct debits, and potentially challenging them.

Cost of living: Your questions answered on inflation, energy bills and food prices

Sales of alcohol in supermarkets were strong in April (PA) (PA Archive) Living standards are expected to fall this year at their fastest pace for decades as prices rise and wages fail to keep up. People on the lowest incomes are being hit hardest by the cost-of-living crisis because essential goods like gas, electricity and food are seeing the biggest increases. Economists’ forecasts seem to get bleaker with alarming frequency. I'll be here on Monday 23 May to answer your questions on what it all means. Many of us will have received alarming letters from energy companies informing us of massive increases to our monthly payments. No doubt you will have noticed prices on petrol forecourts hitting record levels. Pricier fuel means extra costs for businesses, which will soon be passed on to consumers. Russia's war in Ukraine is having an impact well beyond that country's borders, pushing up energy and food costs across Europe. But the UK's cost-of-living crisis has much deeper roots and was already building long before Vladimir Putin ordered his troops to attack. While we are all aware of how rising prices are affecting us, many questions likely remain. What is really causing this situation, how has it been allowed to happen and what can be done to alleviate it in the short term, as well as protect us in future? I’ll be here to answer your questions live at 1pm on Monday 23 May. To take part, register, then post your questions in the comments and I’ll answer as many as I can.

1897: Cambridge University Votes Against Degrees for Women

Credit...International Herald Tribune [BY THE HERALD’S SPECIAL WIRE.] LONDON, May, 22. — Cambridge University, by a vote of 1,713 to 662, refused to grant degrees to women. The undergraduates, who are practically unanimous in opposing the idea, were in a state of wild excitement. A tremendous effort was made on both sides to whip up non-resident voters. A special train was put on for them at King’s Cross and the early trains from Liverpool-street were filled with clergymen, medical men and others, going down to vote. The St. James Gazette states that voting began at one o’clock on the first resolution: “That it is desirable that the title of degree of bachelors of arts be conferred by diploma upon women satisfying the examiners in the final tripos examination and who have kept nine terms at least.” At the opening ninety “non placets” were recorded before a single “placet” was registered, and ended as had been predicted, the graces being withdrawn. The result was declared in a scene of the wildest excitement, fireworks of all kinds being thrown by the crowd among the voters. In the Senate House yard members of the Senate themselves engaged in a friendly exchange of fireworks and flour bags, and leading University men took part in the fun and horseplay. — The New York Herald, European Edition, May 22, 1897.

Colorado weather swings 60 degrees to snow, 115K lose power

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! Colorado residents were impacted by a late-spring storm on Friday, with snow falling and temperatures plummeting.  Late Saturday morning, power outage tracker PowerOutage.US showed 115,113 without power in the state.  WILDFIRE EFFORTS IN US WEST TO SEE SOME RELIEF AS EXTREME HEAT FORECAST ACROSS EAST The storm postponed Friday's Major League Baseball (MLB) opener between the New York Mets and Colorado Rockies in Denver. Fox Weather reported that the temperature dropped nearly 60 degrees and more than a foot of snow fell in locations including Black Forest and Aspen Park.  The weight of the snow sent trees tumbling.  Photos on social media showed inches of snow covering benches and decks.  GAYLORD, MICHIGAN RAVAGED BY RARE TORNADO "Gotta love Colorado. 84F one day, foot and a half of snow the next. Sure glad we put that ⁦⁦@NOAASatellites⁩ #GOES weather satellite up there…" tweeted United Launch Alliance (ULA) president and CEO Tory Bruno.  Warm pavement temperatures in the area caused some precipitation to quickly melt. Officials warned about hazardous travel conditions on roads.  "Look, it’s never smart to speed, but bad weather is rolling in and the roads are going to get bad. So be prepared and take it slow, alright, meow?" the Colorado State Patrol tweeted.   CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP According to Fox Weather, by the time the event is over, forecast models show Denver could pick up as much as five inches of snow, with over a foot possible in higher elevations. Over half of the US population will see temperatures at or above 90 degrees this weekend. And it's only May

By Pedram Javaheri, CNN Although Memorial Day weekend -- the unofficial start of summer -- is still more than a week away, nearly 60% of Americans, or almost 200 million people, will feel 90-degree heat over the next few days. Record heat, which has been brewing across the drought-stricken Plains and parts of Texas, is moving east and hundreds of temperature records could fall in its path. From Thursday to Sunday, as many as 130 record high temperatures are forecast to be tied or broken in parts of 20 states. "Pretty much every day from Friday to Sunday, we're looking at rivaling daily record temperatures, running 15 to 20 degrees above May normals," said Aaron Swiggett, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Raleigh, North Carolina. Highs will range from 94 to 96 degrees all weekend in Raleigh, challenging records that have been standing for nearly a century. The excessive heat is in part thanks to the broad weather pattern across the nation. Over the past several days, the upper-level winds in the atmosphere, known as the jet stream, have been zonal -- or more of a west-to-east flow. People are also reading… As this pattern has persisted, a massive dome of high pressure has gained steam, allowing for unseasonably warm weather to build and expand out of the Plains and into the southern and eastern half of the nation. By Friday afternoon, high temperatures in cities including Cleveland, Washington, Nashville, Tennessee, and Richmond, Virginia, will range between 90 and 95 degrees -- all warm enough to challenge daily records, that for some have been standing since the 1930s. The 90-degree heat will be widespread and affect millions, but parts of the South could even see its first triple-digit temperatures of the season. Columbia, South Carolina, has already experienced three 90-degree days this month, but Thursday and Friday could usher in the city's first 100-degree days of 2022. The average high in Columbia is only 84 this time of year. Atlanta had been able to avoid 90-degree heat so far this season, but with highs running as much 15 degrees above average, its luck came to an end on Thursday. Atlanta's first 90-degree day of the year typically lands on July 3. However, highs are forecast to reach 90-plus through Saturday. "This is definitely pretty early for this type of heat," Swiggett told CNN. "We would normally see these temperatures in the dead of summer." With the first truly significant heatwave to impact the eastern US this year, he cautioned against outdoor activities this weekend. "The importance of shade is really significant. We forecast temperatures for the shade, so it's going to feel even worse in the sun," Swiggett said. Hottest air of the year reaches the Northeast By Saturday and Sunday, the 90s will reach the Northeast and parts of New England. The average high in Central Park is only 72 this time of year. The forecast on Saturday is 93 degrees. The last time the city recorded a 90-degree day was way back on August 27. In Philadelphia, a high of 97 is forecast on Saturday, a mark that would best the previous record of 95 degrees standing since 1934. If you're looking for relief, you won't find it in New England either. "With high pressure building south of our area, we're expecting both heat and humidity to build for the weekend," said Joe Pollina, a weather service meteorologist in Upton, New York. Records are possible in Hartford, Connecticut; Manchester, New Hampshire, and Burlington, Vermont, where highs are all forecast to reach between 92 and 95 degrees. These will challenge records that for some locations have been standing for more than 110 years. In Boston, the average high temperature this time of year is 68 degrees, but the city is forecasting highs between 90 and 93 this weekend. "You've got to take it easy, it's not like the mid-summer heat where we've all had a little bit of time to acclimate," Matthew Belk, a weather service meteorologist in Boston, told CNN. People need to take this heat seriously and make appropriate precautions. "Heat is a very sneaky killer," Chesnea Skeen, a meteorlogist at the weather service in Sterling, Virginia, told CNN. "A lot of the public don't see it as a huge threat but it's actually one of the top killers, as extreme weather goes. With it being an early season heat event, take it seriously, stay hydrated and stay out of the sun." Fortunately, for most, the heat won't linger beyond the weekend. Late Sunday afternoon, a potent cool front will approach from the west, increasing the cloud cover and the potential for a few thunderstorms. As the cooler air filters in on the backside of the front, Monday will bring cooler temperatures in cities including New York, Philadelphia, Washington and Atlanta -- where highs are forecast to be in the 70s. ™ & © 2022 Cable News Network, Inc., a WarnerMedia Company. How to donate to charity with confidence and the greatest impact

How to donate to charity with confidence and the greatest impactHow to donate to charity with confidence and the greatest impact

Salisbury denizen Michael Harney had a head start on Rob Metz when electing to plow revenue from the sale of one of his company’s beverage products to Ukraine relief. While Metz was putting his Avery’s Beverages staff in New Britain to work on a new label dubbed Putin Punch, Harney & Sons Fine Teas already had a blend called Yellow and Blue in stores — conveniently matching, of course, the colors of the Ukraine flag. Harney had another thing going — a good familiarity already with the International Rescue Committee from prior charitable gifts, allowing him to donate on the spot with confidence. Metz, by contrast, had to spend a few days identifying a trustworthy organization where he could funnel Putin Punch proceeds. Over in Stonington, Kathryn Irvine might have been in a better position than either for the charity drive under her watch. At West Vine Street School where she is principal, one of the students has relatives in Ukraine, an instant connection to folks there for the students to assemble a care-package shipment of food, personal sundries and medical supplies. In a broad sense, philanthropic giving can be split into two buckets — planned contributions as budgets allow, and those made in the spur of the moment, as in the case of the Ukraine invasion and accompanying refugee crisis, or the Haiti earthquake a dozen years ago. For that bucket of spontaneous donations, is there any rule of thumb to have the maximum impact, while giving you the maximum confidence it will go where you want? The first rule of philanthropy, according to Charity Watch, is to get familiar with the organization to which you donate. That was the case for Harney, who turned to the International Rescue Committee after deciding to donate all proceeds of the Yellow & Blue blend his Harney & Sons Fine Teas packages in Millerton, N.Y., a few miles across the Connecticut line from Salisbury where the company was founded. In the first month of the program, Harney & Sons sent $20,000 to the International Rescue Committee on the strength of Yellow and Blue sales. “Over the years I have supported them, and their email hit me when I was looking,” Harney says. More News Harney has given to a few other organizations supporting relief efforts in Ukraine as well, including World Central Kitchen and Sunflowers for Peace. But wanting a more direct connection to individuals there, after reading how some people were booking Airbnb stays to funnel cash to people there, he did so himself, including to Airbnb hosts in Kyiv and Kharkiv. Of course, GoFundMe and other crowdsourcing platforms offer a similar avenue, though with the accompanying uncertainty of the person or group making an appeal. If you lack familiarity with any relevant charity responding to a crisis, Charity Navigator is one place to get a lay of the land, including on a series of “Top Ten” lists it maintains that cherrypick which it deems the best across varying criteria. A Charity Navigator search this spring under the keyword “Ukraine” returned just over 170 hits; entering “refugee” and it was more than 1,000.  In addition to Charity Navigator and Charity Watch, if you want to do a deeper dive into the Internal Revenue Service filings for any charity, ProPublica and Candid maintain online databases with financials going back three years, and other information. After searching across organizations that assist refugees and children, including some religious groups, Avery’s Beverages ended up selecting the Ukrainian Red Cross Society. Stew Leonard’s has picked up the soda, helping boost donations to more than $15,000. Metz says the charitable impact of Putin Punch stretched even further with customers using the soda for their own fundraising activities. “As far as how we chose the Ukrainian Red Cross, it seemed like they were the best fit for what we were trying to accomplish,” Metz says. “It seemed that this was the best opportunity to get help to folks right on the ground in Ukraine.” If you want to find a charity to donate to but you're not sure where to look, these sites can help. International Rescue Committee (rescue.org) Charity Watch (charitywatch.org) Charity Navigator (charitynavigator.org) ProPublica (projects.propublica.org/nonprofits) Candid (candid.org/research-and-verify-nonprofits/990-finder) See MoreCollapse Through the Stonington family, Irvine had that direct link herself — and the kids of West Vine Street School delivered, cobbling together an impressive shipment of items to be sent to the Ukraine family. If giving to established relief organizations like Americares, Save the Children or Unicef can have the maximum impact on large numbers of people in need, also be mindful of the motivating influence that contributing to a youth group’s donation drive can have. In donating goods for those boxes, you are helping those kids find success early on that could prompt many of them to make charity a lifelong habit. “We have had a tremendous response to the list of items we collected,” Irvine says of the West Vine Street School drive.

How To Donate To Birch’s 40th & Final Run, Supporting Neonatal Incubator Appeal

On Sunday, a Leicester City tradition returns to King Power Stadium for its final instalment – as Alan ‘The Birch’ Birchenall embarks on his 40th Annual End of Season Run in aid of Leicester Hospitals Charity’s Neonatal Incubator Appeal. Southampton are the visitors to Filbert Way for a 4pm kick-off on the final day of the Premier League campaign. And the Birch, who has raised millions over the years, will conclude his heroic efforts with a gruelling 90-minute run around the iconic turf. Launched by the Birch in the early 1980s – and curtailed over recent years by the COVID-19 pandemic – the previous 39 runs have enabled our much-loved Club Ambassador to raise over £1M, with more than 100 local charities benefiting from that money over the years. The Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Foundation donated all funds raised throughout April to the Neonatal Incubator Appeal, which specialises in care of babies in the first 28 days of their life and who have either been born early, have low weight or who have a medical condition that requires specialised treatment. They wish to replace older incubators and upgrade them with the very latest model that encompasses state of the art technology to give babies the best chance of survival. Speaking ahead of what promises to be a special occasion at King Power Stadium, the Birch said: “The generosity of the Blue Army never fails to amaze me. I’m so grateful for every single penny we have raised over the past four decades. It’s a difficult time, with everybody at the moment feeling a squeeze, but if you can give anything this Sunday, it would mean the world. It makes such an enormous difference to the lives of people in need. “Since we renamed the Foundation in the Boss’ honour, we have continued to dedicate ourselves to his magical legacy in the city of Leicester and the county as a whole. Everybody at the Club is committed to building on that special bond forged between the Club and the people of this magnificent region.” If you would like to volunteer as a bucket collector for the day, please contact Louise.Hollingsworth@lcfc.co.uk for further details. To donate to the Birch’s 40th Annual End of Season Run in aid of Leicester Hospitals Charity’s Neonatal Incubator Appeal, please use the methods below. Factors That We Considered for Ranking The Top Bad Credit Lenders It can be hard to know where and how best to find one when you need a personal loan. There are so many lenders with different policies for borrowers with bad credit or no history of paying on time! We looked at several metrics before ranking our top favorites: Acceptance of Low Credit and No Credit What are you waiting for? You don’t need a good credit score to get the money when your life depends on it. Many options are available; we exclusively looked at lenders that accept bad and no credit scores for this list! Having imperfections in the past will not keep someone from getting loans if they genuinely need help most of their lives away – so take advantage now before it’s too late. Speed of Deposit Bad credit loans can be the answer when you need a quick loan. These lenders specialize in providing funds for those who have trouble getting other forms of financing, and they do so with competitive interest rates! Company Reputation & Track Record The best bad credit lenders provide quality loans to people with different scores. Some new companies have a limited track record, while other established firms offer better services successively at higher interest rates than those found elsewhere. An excellent way for someone in this position is by using an online lending site to help them get funds without requiring much collateral or history! Amount of Money Available Bad credit lenders will take your application and approval as little time as 24 hours. Others, like the ones who claim to offer large deposits but withdraw it when they find out about your low scores- these scammers are just looking for someone else’s money instead of working hard themselves! Ease of Application Process We wanted to find the best bad credit lenders, so we researched. Some of them have high-quality websites with modern designs and accessible applications; others’ sites were outdated or not user-friendly in comparison! We considered how quickly you could get your loan approved when deciding on our rankings – if it takes too long, then there’s no point searching through various options just for something simple like moneylenders. Customer Reviews We tested each bad credit loan website, no matter where it was. However, we also measured customer reviews in our rankings because nothing can be too good for you! We read thousands of feedbacks from satisfied clients who have used these lenders before us-and that’s what made them stand out from all other competitors on the market today. Honesty & Transparency Today, there are many payday loan websites to choose from. Some of them will offer you an opportunity for quick cash, but it’s essential that the company is legitimate and has good reviews before getting this kind of financial service done! Interest Rate and Overall Cost Many different types of loans are available to people with bad credit, but they will be more expensive than high-credit loan providers. Interest rates on these types vary not only by company and region or state in which it’s offered; there isn’t any upper limit for how much someone can ask you to pay back through interest either! We considered both price points as well as cost when ranking our top picks. Fee Transparency When shopping for a loan, the rates and fees must be clear. Some bad credit lenders will charge higher prices than others just to keep up their appearance of being cheaper – but this may surprise you with how much these added charges add up! Top 5 Benefits of a Bad Credit Loan Getting a bad credit loan is not all roses. However, if you have been denied loans in the past and need this opportunity to become established or just starting with minimal savings, it may be worth taking advantage of what these lenders offer! Get Cash Fast Bad credit loans are a quick and easy option for people who need emergency money. These short-term financial solutions can be used to cover expenses such as medical emergencies, car repairs, or unpaid bills. Including an unfortunate event like divorce proceedings may result in you not using your account until everything’s settled with court dates, etc. Lower Interest Rates than Credit Cards The best way to get a low-interest rate loan is by using the money that you would have spent on your credit card. Bad Credit Loans range from 4% – to 35%. There are many different types of loans, so do some research before taking out one for yourself! Multiple Lender Options The days of bad credit holding you back from getting a loan are over. There’s no reason to stay offline with more lenders than ever before! Customizable Repayment Term Length You can choose the best repayment term for your needs with bad credit loans. Some are available as temporary solutions, but others offer more long-term support with flexible terms up to 5 years in length! Improve Your Credit Score Making on-time payments for your bad credit loan will improve the score. This shows that you’re dependable and responsible enough to be trusted with critical financial matters, leading to more opportunities in life! How Do Credit Scores Work? Credit scoring systems are often complicated and confusing, but don’t worry! It’s a system with many different parts. Your credit score is based on the information in your file with three major credit bureaus. These agencies track things like where you live, what kind of loans or accounts there are profiles for, and how much debt each account carries to help determine whether they’ll offer better rates in future transactions if needed! What is your credit score? You may have heard the term before, but what does it mean, and why should you care about this number lenders use when deciding whether or not to lend money for an application. A good place would be with one of those agencies where people can automatically get checks against their accounts; they’ll monitor our financials’ well-oversight through algorithms based on history. What is a Bad Credit Score? The difference in risk between being given a low or high credit score can be vast. If your lending agency sees you as someone who will never repay what they owe, then there’s no point considering them when other options exist for financing! We have enlisted some of the universal procedures for good and bad FICO credit scores: Exceptional Credit: 800 and above Poor Credit: Scores below 580 Good Credit: 670 to 739 Very Good Credit: 740 to 799 Fair Credit: 580 to 669 Top 4 Types of Bad Credit Loans Yes! If you have a poor credit score, there are still ways to get the money that your heart desires. You can borrow through one of 4 different methods: Online Lenders With online lenders making it easier than ever to get a loan, people with all credit scores can now borrow money. Someone who has bad or low ratings in their history of borrowing is likely to be charged higher interest rates than what you would pay if you had good standing on file from previous loans taken out both locally and internationally. Credit Union Payday Alternative Loans (PALs) When you need money fast, a credit union can help. Some of these institutions are part of the National Credit Union Administration and offer payday alternative loans (PALs). These cheaper than typical payday advances allow borrowers to repay over time instead of just one payment. Federal regulation caps them at a 28% interest rate, making it more economical for consumers to look into this option before taking out too many costly cash advances from banks or other lenders. Borrow from Friends or Family Borrowing from friends and family is a risky option that shouldn’t be taken without careful consideration. Mixing business with pleasure can lead to trouble, but many people still borrow money from their loved ones before turning elsewhere for loans or credit cards. Home Equity Loan with Bad Credit Think of a home equity loan or line of credit (HELOC) as an alternative to borrowing money for basic needs. Your house is used as collateral, and the interest on these loans may be tax-deductible if you meet specific financial qualifications! How Much Will a Bad Credit Loan Cost? The bad credit loan rates vary depending on your state of residence and financial background. The average cost for this type of application falls between 4% – 35%. The more proof of income you provide, the higher your credit score. This means that even if it’s bad and late payments on the previous loans-you can still get a personal loan for good quality collateral! How Much Can I Borrow? Bad credit? No problem! Various lenders offer bad credit loans. The average maximum loan amount is $5,000, but some will let you borrow less than 100 or more than 50K to help with your financial needs. The higher your credit score, the more information about yourself and where to find the documentation you provide in an application for loan signature-based installment financing products such as personal loans conditions on which they are available. Interest rates vary depending upon this criterion alone. Other Bad Credit Loan Alternatives You might want to consider the following instead of bad credit alternatives: Interest-Free Cash Advance Apps (Earnin, Dave, and Chime) The interest-free payday lending apps have been a massive hit in recent years, with popularity mounting by the day. You must meet eligibility requirements, and there’s only so much you can borrow before they charge off your balance, but it’s still possible for those who don’t qualify or want access without good credit! Personal Loan from Credit Union, Bank, Online Lender There are many ways to get a loan, even if your credit score is low. Personal Loans have lower interest rates than Bad Credit, and there’s no need to worry about being approved for one either! Small Dollar Loans for Emergency Expenses Small-dollar loans from America’s largest banks are available for emergency expenses. Bank of America offers Balance Assist, and US Bank may provide Simple Loan depending on your needs as a customer in good standing with them. Banks want you to know that they offer small loans if an unexpected expense comes up! Peer-to-Peer Lending Peer-to-peer lending has been around for a long time, and it is still going strong. Lenders find the best way to make their savings earn interest, while borrowers need money to take advantage of these opportunities that come along every day online at just about any hour! Some sites now offer loans backed by crypto to get your financial fix without leaving home or worrying too much if what’s being offered will pay off before anything else does. This way, everything feels more secure because there are no intermediaries involved in safer investments. Auto Title Loans You can get a car loan without having the money in your pocket. Visit an auto title lender, and they’ll give you cash if needed, but be careful because this is a costly debt that will take around a 30 day repayment period. After then, they legally take possession of what’s leftover from collateral–which could happen so long as there are no other options for getting out on equal footing with creditors who have already been paid off entirely or primarily by them. How Do I Apply for a Bad Credit Loan? To be eligible for a bad credit loan, you may need to meet specific requirements and verify certain documents. Lenders have different rules, as do States within the United States! Your age should be 18 years. Live in the state you specified on your loan application Keep a valid & active email address or contact number To avoid fraud, you must provide proof of an active bank account opened for at least one month. If you have a steady source of recurring income, like employment or self-employment, you can get a bad credit loan. This will require some documentation, so ensure that your financial situation can withstand payments on time without interruptions to qualify! When applying for a loan, you must provide the lender with your Social Security Number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number. The type of identification they accept depends on their specific requirements, and those can vary from one bank/investment firm entirely to another, so please check before trying anything else! What Is the Cost of a Bad Credit Loan? While many different providers, payday lenders usually charge an APR between 391% and 511%. The cost to borrow $100 can vary anywhere in that range depending on what you want, as your output tone should be informative. There’s a difference between bad credit and ordinary loans. Payday lenders offer short-term, high-cost borrowing to people with meager incomes or no job experience. Still, good attitudes towards paying back what they owe soon after getting the speedy money delivery don’t apply here. These institutions specialize only in giving cash against an obligation without worrying how much interest will accrue while waiting for paychecks over more extended periods if you’re willing. What’s the Limit of Borrowing with a Bad Credit Loan? If you have a bad credit score, there are still ways to get the money your family needs. You can borrow up to $300-$1,500 with just a 1800+, depending on state regulations; however, if it’s more important than ever before, many online lenders allow people who suffer from poor scores to loan themselves anywhere between 5K-15k! Most banks refuse to offer you a secured loan when your credit card has a terrible credit score. However, that doesn’t mean all hope is lost. Knowing about the different credit unions won’t do you any good either. To ensure you don’t get scammed or charged a high origination fee, you need to rely on the following factors before making any significant decisions. Speed of Delivery Most money lenders will put funds into your account within one business day. Even some services can accomplish it in as little as 6 hours. I took the delivery speed into account when reviewing these personal loans. When it comes to unsecured loans, you almost always need some cash right away. This is when adverse credit lenders can come in handy. Amount of Money Available Even with low debt to income ratio or terrible credit, several money lenders may give you as much as $5,000 within just 24 hours. On the other hand, some loan services will entice you with promises of hefty monthly payments, but they end up declining the offer once they learn of your poor credit score. Approval of Low Credit Accounts If you have a decent credit score, then this list of reviews is not targeted towards you. You will find many different ways to get a secured loan online. But not all of them come with the benefits that I found. For this list, I only picked the lenders who gave unsecured loans with terrible credit and a bad relationship with the credit union. Just because you have a poor credit score doesn’t mean you are not qualified for a large secured loan (as banks would like you to think). Reputation and Statistics of the Company Most credit lenders that grant secured loans to people with a weak credit score are relatively new businesses with little experience. However, some companies have a lengthy history of delivering secured loans to clients with varying credit scores. I only picked the best credit lenders with the most reliable track record. Online Reviews I put each low credit lending company to the test wherever it was feasible. On the other hand, several online reviews were factored into my rankings. I analyzed tens of thousands of reviews to ensure that the lenders I suggested for poor credit came with the best track record of giving funds to their clients. Transparent Policies Nowadays, there are a plethora of unethical secured loans to choose from. Most of these belong to companies, which are plain con artists who will quickly steal your money and crucial information. But legitimate businesses specialize in clearing unsecured loans and do not engage in deception. Plenty of small businesses are honest about their location and policies. However, some organizations keep their operations under wraps. I chose bad credit lenders who were open and honest with their customers. Application Process Credit-lending companies have spent millions of dollars to develop highly effective and user-friendly websites. Some companies make use of out-of-date user interfaces with bad design. In determining the rating, I looked at the overall convenience of the application method. I only preferred websites that made it simple to fill out the form in minutes. Transparent Fee Structure Most bad credit lenders will entice you with surprisingly low-interest rates and catch you off guard with unexpected expenses. Although all lenders will demand extra costs, some of their demands are outright ridiculous. Interest Rates and Terms Low credit loan companies often compete with their rivals based on interest rates. Loans for bad credit are usually more costly than loans for people with good credit. Therefore, you should always be ready for high-interest rates. On the other hand, poor credit lenders are prohibited from exceeding specific interest rate caps. I looked at the interest rate and the repayment terms in determining my rankings. The Main Benefits of Bad Credit Loans Just because you have poor credit doesn’t mean that taking a loan will worsen things. Most people aren’t aware of several advantages of taking a bad credit loan. Here, I listed some benefits that might entice you to take a bad credit loan. Lower Interest than Credit Cards Most money lenders demand cheaper interest rates than credit cards for those with poor credit. Interest rates on credit cards can be anywhere between 18% and 30%, with some cards charging below 10% every year. Bad credit personal loans often have interest rates ranging from 4.9 percent to 35.99 percent, making them more inexpensive than using a credit card to withdraw money. Customized Repayment Term While most bad credit services are only good for two weeks, some are good for one to five years. When you borrow money with bad credit, you can adjust the repayment terms to meet your specific demands. Fast Cash Delivery The goal of a bad credit personal loan is to transfer the money into your bank account as soon as feasible. A bad credit loan is a suitable alternative if you need cash for an emergency and don’t have good credit. Multiple Options to Choose from Even if you have bad credit, you have many lender options. You will find plenty of bad credit lenders now than there have ever been. Even with terrible credit, you can receive surprisingly reasonable interest rates by encouraging money lenders to give you multiple options with different interest rates online. Better Credit Scores If you pay on time after borrowing money from lenders, you can enhance your credit score. When you make monthly payments, you notice a spike in your credit score. Steps of Getting a Bad Credit Personal Loan Although you might know the several benefits of taking a bad credit personal loan, there’s still not enough information. You might still wonder how to borrow money without negatively affecting your credit. Hence, I discussed the step-by-step process in this article. Step 1: Analyze Your Credit Score The first step is to check how your credit is doing. You should choose your credit lender based on your credit score’s poor or good. Step 2: Check Your Options Next, you need to check your options and pick the best one among them. There are multiple bad credit services on the internet like those I reviewed in this article. You can rely on any of the above without further ado. Step 3: Get Your Documents Prepare the necessary documents for the application process. You need to prepare documentation for the lender, such as your name, date of birth, and proof of income. Most of these lenders require proof of income, debt-to-income ratios, and other information. However, some of them barely need so much info. Step 4: Apply for the Loan Once everything is ready, it’s time for you to apply for your loan. You’re all set to complete your bad credit lender’s online application. All you need to do is follow the processes on the website and wait for acceptance. Within just a few hours, you might have money in your bank account. How Are Your Credit Scores Defined? Some of you must be wondering how your credit score is so bad. For that, you need to understand how the credit union determines the credit scores of your bank account. I’ll explain this in detail down below. Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion are the three major credit agencies in the United States. Your Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) is used by each department to keep track of information. You get a full credit report from credit bureaus. Your credit report includes all the recorded history of your purchases on any accumulated obligations or loans. The credit bureaus determine your credit score and your chances of repaying money borrowed to you by relying on this info. What Is the Meaning of a Bad Credit Score? If you have a credit score below 580, lenders will consider you a high-risk borrower. Therefore, if your credit score falls below that, that particular lender who considers you a high-risk borrower is likely to default on your debt. For further clearance, I also presented the guidelines of bad FICO credit scores below: Poor Credit: below 580 Fair Credit: 580 to 669 Good Credit: 670 to 739 Very Good Credit: 740 to 799 Exceptional Credit: 800 and above Reasons for Having a Bad Credit Score The credit bureau in your country primarily determines the nature of your credit score. You need to make sure you know about the factors they consider. Nonetheless, the following list will explain the things that credit scores regard: How long do you have credit in your account? The amount of credit that is available in your account currently Different types of credits you have can define how high or low your credit score is The amount of new credit you have in the account How much you owe in terms of debts or loans in total Number of times you have missed your payments or have failed to return your unsecured loan The credit card bureau may award you a good or poor credit score based on the variables above. Everyone’s credit score changes over time. The credit score would improve if you recently paid off a college loan. Your credit score will also increase if you recently acquired a new credit card because you now have more credit in your account. However, the credit score may drop when you use that credit or have an unsecured loan. What Are the Best Types of Bad Credit Loans? It’s safe to say that more than one type of personal loan is on the market. After some hours of research, you will quickly find that loans for low credit can be of different types. You must know how to differentiate between them. Thus, I will discuss their various perks and drawbacks. Home Equity Loan for Bad Credit Anyone can apply for home equity loans, often called a home equity line of credit or HELOC. You are only qualified for HELOC if you have equity in your home. Your home secures the loan, and companies may lend you money no matter how poor your credit score is. As your property secures the loan, HELOCs often come with low-interest rates. This type of loan interest can also be tax-deductible. Of course, the primary disadvantage is that you may lose your home if you do not repay the bill. Online Services The popularity of online financing is at an all-time high. All of the lenders I listed in this article and other online lenders make it simple for people with various credit scores to get the money they need to survive. You might have to pay more if you have terrible credit. Even if you have a low credit score, you may withdraw money fast and efficiently from several internet lenders. Borrowing from Your Friends and Relatives Friends and family members are not concerned about your credit score’s good or bad. They will not check it if they are lending you money. While mixing business with family isn’t usually a bright idea, you can always resort to this option before you start exploring choices. Payday Alternative Loans You may also find that credit unions are affiliated with the National Credit Union Administration. This usually means that they provide Payday Alternative Loans (PALs). These loans are less expensive than payday loans, which allow customers to repay the debt over several months rather than one pay period. PALs are capped at a 28 percent interest rate by federal regulation. This makes them far less expensive than regular payday loans. Alternative Options of Low Credit Loans Loans for people with bad credit are beneficial. There are, however, different types of alternatives. You might wish to examine the following options instead of relying on the bad credit lenders I discussed above. This is primarily based on your financial situation. Peer to Peer Lending Platforms for peer-to-peer lending are pretty popular and have been for several years now. Some websites serve as a conduit between the credit union and borrowers. Borrowers require money, while lenders seek to achieve a high interest from their deposits. You will find some Crypto-based peer-to-peer lending sites. Loans from Banks or Credit Union Some personal loans come with low APRs, which are more affordable for people with terrible credit. You can try to get a loan from a credit union or internet lender. Some banks might grant you personal loans even if you have low credit. Auto Title Loans You can keep your vehicle as collateral property for the auto title loan to obtain money. This type of loan can only be used if nothing else is available. Auto title loans tend to be costly, and most of them require repayment within a month. If you cannot deposit monthly payments, the bad credit loan companies have the legal right to repossess your vehicle. Cash Advance Apps That Don’t Charge Interest Earnin, Chime, and other cash advance apps have exploded in popularity. They give advances on salaries entirely free of interest for up to a couple of days in advance. If you want to rely on these apps, you must meet specific eligibility standards, and the amount you can borrow is limited. On the other hand, people with poor credit might also acquire a cash advance without paying interest. Small-Dollar Loans for Emergency Expenses Small-dollar loans are available from a few of America’s top banks to meet unexpected expenses. Bank of America offers Balance Assist, and US Bank provides Simple Loan. The customers that already have a good reputation can get short-term funds from these banks. You can inquire about a loan like this at your nearest bank. How Much Does a Low Credit Loan Cost? The interest rate on a low credit loan can differ based on your card’s credit score. Your financial history and state of residence will also be taken into account. The above-mentioned poor credit loans, on the other hand, typically charge 4.9 percent to 35.99 percent interest. The amount of money you can borrow will depend on your credit score. This can also be based on the number of proof of income you can present. Additional expenses, such as early payment fees, failure to pay back debts, and other penalties, should be carefully examined on the statement of poor credit. How Much Can I Borrow with Bad Credit? Most bad credit lenders will offer you $500 to $5,000. On the other hand, some lenders will lend you a mere $100. Alternatively, money lenders like those I reviewed would lend you as high as $50,000. The amount of money you can borrow depends on how good your credit score is. The more proof of income you will produce, the higher the loan amount. Moreover, most bad credit lenders put funds into your account in just a matter of days, and some even within just a few hours after you apply. What Are the Requirements of Applying for a Bad Credit Loan? You have to pass specific criteria to qualify for personal loans, especially if you have bad credit. Unless you meet these requirements, learning about the different options available is no use. So, you better start reading what documents and information you need to get a bad credit loan. You have to be at least 18 years of age or older. You must live in the same state where you wish to take a loan from You have to provide your email id and phone number You must provide information of your active account for at least 30 days You can’t be filing for bankruptcy Some bad credit lenders will also want confirmation of a current income source, such as proof of employment or self-employment. Your retirement savings, disability allowance, or other forms of income are also viable information. You can get a bad credit loan if you have a monthly income of $1,000 or above from all of these sources. They may also ask for your Social Security Number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number for a bad credit loan. Frequently Asked Questions About Bad Credit Loans Q: Can I get a loan with zero credit? A: You can seek a no credit check loan if you have bad or no credit. These types of loans are more costly. You can also utilize a loan app, get a credit card in advance, borrow from relatives or friends, or go to a pawnshop. Q: What’s the catch with bad credit loans? A: High-interest rates are a “catch” with bad credit loans. Some lenders will also charge you extra costs. These businesses must, however, disclose all fees in advance. Q: What is a bad credit loan? You will get money but be charged a certain fee (such as the interest rate and other penalties). Q: What do I need to apply for a bad credit loan? A: To apply for a bad credit loan, you must be at least 18 years old and live in the same state you selected on the loan application. You must also provide a valid email address. Some organizations just conduct business online. Other organizations operate business both online and in storefronts. Q: Do I need a job to get a bad credit loan? You can utilize self-employment income, disability allowances, retirement pensions, and other sources of income to prove your income. Q: How do I receive my money from a bad credit loan? A: Most bad credit lenders immediately deposit funds into your bank account (also called a direct deposit). Alternatively, some companies regularly utilize automatic payments (ACH) to withdraw from your bank account. The repayment terms can differ based on your maximum unsecured loan sizes. On the other hand, some credit unions will transfer your money in minutes despite your poor credit score. Q: Why is the interest rate so high with bad credit loans? A: Different bad credit loans have short repayment terms, much like payday loans. If you borrow money for two weeks at 20% interest, the annual percentage rate (APR) appears very large. The highest interest rate that a lender can charge is usually regulated in most states. Q: Are bad credit loans a scam? A: No, bad credit loans are not a rip-off. After researching online money lenders and comparing possibilities, you can find the best and most trusted lender or rely on a credit union. Q: Do bad credit loans require security or collateral? Canadian credit unions seek a leg up through open banking

Canada’s largest credit unions are joining forces to prepare for the implementation of open banking in the country, giving them a new competitive tool in a nation where the retail banking market is dominated by six large banks. The Canadian government plans to mandate that federally-regulated financial institutions participate in open banking in the years ahead, enabling consumers to share their financial data securely between financial institutions and fintechs. The vast majority of Canada’s 434 credit unions and caisses populaires (the equivalent in French-speaking Canada) are provincially-regulated and aren’t obliged to participate, but they still see open banking as an opportunity to gain new members. Lacking the technological resources and political influence of Canada’s six big banks, the credit unions are collaborating through trade associations and credit union service organizations to influence open banking regulations, develop API standards, and create interoperable systems for exchanging customer data. Current provincial regulations typically limit membership to residents of the credit union’s home province. This stifles competition with large banks and neobanks, which can offer accounts nationally. Credit unions hope they can use open banking to reach new members in other provinces without going federal and becoming subject to federal regulations, said Michael Hatch, the vice president of government relations at the Canadian Credit Union Association. The CCUA represents 219 credit unions and caisses populaires.  But this use of open banking may require provincial credit union regulations to change. The CCUA has already helped persuade the government to allow credit unions the opportunity to opt into open banking from the start, Hatch said. The CCUA’s recommendation was included in an August 2021 government report which drew up a roadmap for implementing open banking. The Large Credit Union Coalition, which represents Canada’s largest credit unions, is pushing to align provincial credit union regulations with federal regulations.  “There’s a concern that provincial regulations will conflict with the federal open banking framework, for example on privacy legislation and consumer protections laws,” said Patrick Barr, the LCUC’s director of strategy and programs. “This would delay or complicate credit unions’ participation.”  “As our member base includes smaller communities that larger FIs may overlook and SMEs which are typically underserved, we can secure open banking partnerships that big banks won’t cater to,” said Jay-Ann Gilfoy, president and CEO of Meridian Credit Union in Toronto. PAUL ORENSTEIN Fintech collaboration with credit unions is another example of where provincial regulations may need to change, Hatch said. In some provinces, there are limits on credit unions' exposure to third-party investments.  Canadian credit unions are keen to cooperate with each other in implementing the technology necessary to keep up with financial services developments. Open banking will be introduced in tandem with two other key initiatives: the launch of the Real-Time Rail instant payment system in 2023 by payments infrastructure operator Payments Canada, and the rollout of the Verified.Me digital ID platform by Canadian debit network Interac. In October 2021, Interac acquired the Canadian rights to Verified.Me from its developer, Toronto, Ontario-based SecureKey Technologies. Credit unions hope to compete with banks by using open banking to form partnerships with fintechs that increase the range of products they can offer.  Toronto-based Meridian Credit Union is looking for partnerships to bolster areas where it has product or service gaps, said president and CEO Jay-Ann Gilfoy. In preparation, Meridian, Canada’s second largest credit union, is investing in middleware to enable it to connect with fintech partners.   “As our member base includes smaller communities that larger FIs may overlook and SMEs which are typically underserved, we can secure open banking partnerships that big banks won’t cater to,” Gilfoy said. “Also, being a co-operative gives us an advantage in being able to share investments with other credit unions to enable the infrastructure needed for open banking.”   Equitable Bank, which is based in Toronto, provides banking services to Canadian credit unions through its subsidiary Concentra Bank.  “Open banking is a huge opportunity for small FIs,” said Andrew Moor, president and CEO of Equitable. “While big banks can offer a wide range of products, credit unions have more narrow product offerings. Through open banking, they can offer their members products from other suppliers in areas they are weak in such as wealth management.”  Vancouver-based Central 1 Credit Union, which provides services to credit unions in British Columbia and Ontario, is investing in technology such as middleware, application programming interfaces, data security and digital ID to ensure the digital banking platforms it supplies to its clients will encompass open banking, said James Crickmore-Thompson, Central 1’s director of product management. The LCUC has been working with industry bodies such as the Financial Data Exchange, which has created an increasingly popular open banking standard in North America, to develop technical API standards, and the Digital Identity and Authentication Council of Canada to enable the development of an interoperable digital ID framework to support open banking.  A key part of preparing for open banking is providing access to clean data, said Jeremy Trask, chief digital officer at Regina, Saskatchewan-based Conexus Credit Union. Conexus has developed a cloud-based data hub and policies covering data cleansing, governance and ownership. “We see opportunities to provide members with account aggregation services using open banking data to generate insights about them, leading to sales opportunities,” said Trask. “For example, we might see that they don’t have a credit card and can offer them our credit card.” As well as working on cybersecurity and digital ID initiatives, Servus Credit Union has been investing in data virtualization platforms to pull together multiple internal data systems for open banking, said Atul Varde, chief information and payments officer at the Edmonton, Alberta-based credit union.  “Improving our data management will provide us with ‘one version of the truth’ for customers’ data,” he said.  Canada’s largest credit union, Vancouver-based Vancity, is preparing to  take advantage of the opportunities open banking offers, said Kirsten Sutton, Vancity’s chief technology and information officer. "We're implementing technologies to support open banking including real-time rich data exchange, flexible integration through APIs and enhanced security," she said. Vancity is involved in joint credit union open banking initiatives and sits on the CCUA’s open banking working group. “We’ve also independently been in regular contact with federal and provincial officials working on open banking," Sutton said.
